Diary of a Disney Daydream-Chapter Eleven: A Good Night’s Rest & A Worrisome Sight

Chapter Eleven: A Good Night’s Rest and a Worrisome Sight

Roselyn stretched and yawned as daylight drifted into the room to greet them.

What a night they had, and finally some good rest. She would have thought it had all been just a dream except for the fact that she was surrounded by curtains in the most luxurious bed she had ever slept in. The suite was incredible, and decorated impeccably right down to the smallest and finest details.

Cinderella and the Prince had been true to their word, providing them with a member of the Royal Guard to watch over them and a personal servant, George, to provide them with anything they needed. After the dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table, however, the two friends had been positively exhausted and could think of nothing but a warm and soft bed to sleep in and process the previous days events.

Roselyn glanced over at the other King sized bed and the lump that was Mitzi.

Still asleep, Mitzi had pulled the covers over her head. Roselyn sat up and took in her surroundings. In normal circumstances, this would be such a pleasant treat. In the current circumstances, however, she could not thoroughly enjoy it. After all, they were there to be protected. Protected from the most sinister evil ever created- villains who apparently had a following of those who would like nothing better than to see Mitzi and herself done away with at their earliest opportunity. Cinderella glanced down from her portrait on the wall as a knock at the door made Roselyn jump.

“Yes?” Roselyn asked. Mitzi groaned and stirred from beneath the blankets.

“Madames, you will please excuse me, but it is now seven o’clock and Her Highness bade me to waken you at this time,” George announced from behind the large oak door.

“Thank you George,” Roselyn replied, then turned to Mitzi the lump. “Mitzi, let’s go. It’s time to rise and shine. Places to go, evil to defeat!” Mitzi groaned.

“I know, I know. Oh this bed! Have you ever slept better in your life? Man, I always knew that I wanted to be royalty, but I had no idea!” Mitzi rolled over and stretched, glancing at the parlor through a doorway to her right.

“I love it too, I just wish we were here for other reasons, you know?” Roselyn asked, looking over the carved furnishings and the chandelier above.

“Yes, I know, but it will be all right. You heard Cindy, after all. They can’t come in the castle- none of them! It’s protected. So we might as well get some enjoyment out of this escapade,” Mitzi sat up.

“Well, this escapade is about to begin again for the day, so I am going to take a bath and prepare for things,” Roselyn said with a smile.

“All right, slave driver. I’m right behind you,” Mitzi laughed as they got up.

After a long, luxurious and refreshing soak in what Roselyn was sure was the largest bath tub she had ever been in, the two were ready for the day.

Roselyn had the key from Flora in her fanny pack along with her pins and necessities. Mitzi had tied her hair up today after learning the hard way previously that hair gets in one’s eyes when flying. Both friends felt more prepared to meet the day. Walking through the suite, the mirror on the wall in an alcove began talking to them as they went by.

“Hello there ladies!” a familiar voice greeted. Roselyn and Mitzi stopped in their tracks and turned around to face the mirror.

“What?” Mitzi asked.

“I said hello!” the voice giggled, and Mickey Mouse came into view. “Sorry, didn’t mean to startle ya!”

“You are Mickey Mouse!” Roselyn exclaimed.

“Um, yes I am. And you are Roselyn and Mitzi,” he retorted.

“I’m sorry, I know I should be used to the unusual around here, but I can’t believe it. You are…real!” Roselyn said.

“Well of course I am real, Roselyn,” Mickey giggled. “How could I not be real? So many believe in me, and that is what makes me as real as you.”

“It’s great to meet you Mickey,” Mitzi chimed in.

“Likewise, Mitzi. I hope we will have time to visit soon, but you two have something very special to do today, and you know how important it is, don’t you?” The two nodded in agreement. “You know, you two have a lot of people that believe in you, too, just like me. Always remember that, and it will give you strength. Now then, let me see. Ah yes- here it is!”

With a gasp from Roselyn, Mickey held up a key that looked similar to the one Roselyn carried already. He held it out, and before their eyes, it extended right out of the mirror. “Here you go, Roselyn. Never show this key to anyone and do not let it out of your sight. There is another, and that one will be given to you in time,” Mickey said. Roselyn took the silver key and placed it in her fanny pack. She thought she could feel a slight vibration when it clinked against the other golden key.

“Thank you Mickey. I don’t suppose you know what these keys are for, do you?” Mitzi asked.

“You will know when you need to use them, so don’t worry! Now, if you will excuse me, it’s time for me to get to work. Park opening time, you know! Good luck, you two!” with a final flourish of his white gloved hand, Mickey disappeared.

Mitzi turned to Roselyn. “We just got a key from a mouse in a mirror.”

Roselyn laughed. “I know, this has completely challenged my sense of reality, too!”

The two proceeded down the hall and opened the door.

“Ah, there you are,” George greeted. “Her Highness requested that you be escorted to the Grand Hall for breakfast.” With that, George pressed the button beside the elevator door. Stepping inside, he selected the proper floor and cleared his throat. “We, the servants here that is, all wish you luck.” Before Roselyn or Mitzi could respond, the doors opened to reveal a dining hall similar to the Royal Table and Cinderella was walking towards them. George bowed as he ushered them out of the elevator and the doors closed behind them.

“Good morning!” Cinderella greeted.

“Good morning!” they returned.

“I hope you slept well. I remember my first night here, I slept like a dream,” Cinderella smiled. “I had the chef prepare you a wonderful breakfast, so please sit and eat. You will need your strength today.”

The two sat down to a breakfast feast. Crepes with fresh fruit, meats and delicious omlettes, pancakes and waffles with so many different syrups- it was magnificent. The two ate while Cinderella informed them of their next destination.

“Today, you will have to venture into Frontierland. There, you will find the next step of your journey revealed to you. I don’t know exactly what that will be, but I am sure it will be revealed to you,” she said.

Roselyn had to chuckle as Mitzi replied, “Yes, I am quite sure it will reveal itself. That sure hasn’t been a problem around here.”

After they finished their breakfast, Cinderella rose from the table and approached them.

She hugged Mitzi. “Good luck Mitzi- stay true to your friendship and never doubt it.”

She then hugged Roselyn. “Your gifts mean so much. Don’t be afraid to use them for good, but don’t be tricked into using them for evil.”

“Thank you for your kindness, Cinderella,” Roselyn replied, unsure of what else to say.

“You are welcome, now come with me for a moment,” she walked across the room to a large window and the two friends realized they were high in the castle. “Tell me, Roselyn, what do you see?”

Roselyn approached the picture window and gazed out upon the throngs of people that were filing into the Magic Kingdom. She gasped louder than she wanted to as she saw them.

“Rosie- what is it?” Mitzi asked, alarmed.

“Oh Mitzi. There are dozens of them down there,” she replied, turning to the Princess. “There are more today, aren’t there?”

Cinderella nodded her affirmation. “Be wary of those you see with the clouds overhead. It means they have been tainted by evil.”

Roselyn looked back once more and saw them. Tiny clouds floating over heads, bobbing up and down as if they were balloons. There would be no way to avoid them all today.
